Group 4 DAY1 & DAY2

Group 4

DAY1(5/8/14)
Our initial experience on the Stanford campus was impeccable. Getting to see this massive place where people actually study was really overwhelming. Compared to the limited space in Hong Kong, this place is humungous. From what we saw today, there were music centers, libraries and many other activity rooms. The whole atmosphere was really engaging. This place seemed pretty magical, seeing it in real life with the descriptions of the former students who visited here. We look forward to visiting all the labs and the activities prepared for us. Despite our cultural differences, we think that this could be a great experience to acknowledge life outside the pearl of the orient we call home. We hope to strengthen our cooperative skills and also train ourselves independently to prepare for the years to come.

DAY2 (6/8/2014)
Compared to yesterday, we did a lot more activities in the campus. In the morning, we had an amazing breakfast.  Tater tots, scrambled eggs and waffles definitely gave us a great kick for the start of the day. We had a lecture on evolutional biology by Jeremy.  The class was very really fascinating. We learnt a lot about DNA and genetics, travelling back to the future and trying to discover the extinct species of dinosaurs.
After having a scrumptious meal for lunch, we went for a neuroscience class.  Although we have not got the chance to encounter neuroscience yet, we find it really intriguing as we all enjoy studying about the human body and this class gave us a great opportunity to take a greater step into this subject.

After that we had a tour around the gigantic campus, we went to the memorial church with stunning stained glass, the circle of death, the oval and the bell tower. During a promenade with the councilors, we also knew more about traditions of Stanford, where Berkeley usually pulls pranks on Stanford grounds during the big games each year. We also knew more about the history and also the architecture of Stanford, where all buildings are based on a Spanish style. It was really a tiring day for us as we do not usually walk that much to every class and the campus in some way is too big for us, so we could easily get lost. We do hope that we could get used to the large campus and enrich our knowledge in the following days.
