Our second day in Stanford went smoothly. We had breakfast
in the canteen and went straight to our Evolutionary Biology class. We learnt
about DNA, the PCR, and the four base pairs of DNA. Using Jurassic Park as an
example, a well-known book and film, it stimulated our interest and our
teacher, Professor Jeremy, was very encouraging and did his best to engage us
in the lecture.
We had Neuroscience after lunch. The lecture was about
understanding our brains and the nervous system. The lecture was hosted by Doctor
Maral. Tori said that she is a great teacher and has a great passion for the
subject. All of us agreed with what she said. We were honored to be her
students.
After a day of indulging in the sciences, we went for a
scavenger hunt to let our minds rest for a moment. We saw the Bell Tower, the
Circle of Death, and the Claw, a fountain in which Stanford students socialize
and impale the Berkley mascot as a sign of friendly rivalry. We also went to
the Oval where we learnt about the architect’s “long visions”.
We blew off steam through leisure activities, such as
Twister and Monopoly. It had been such an eventful day that we felt like we’ve
been here for more than just a day.
