Day 7 (11/8/2014)
It has been a week since we arrived here in Stanford. Today
we had two classes, and an amazing afternoon activity, shopping at the Stanford
mall.
We had journalism for our first lecture, and learnt a lot
about the art of persuasion. Or, as we now know we can call it, the “rhetorical”.
Starting the lesson with a game of bingo, we then studied the rhetorical with
the help of real-life advertisements. It was definitely one of the most
inventive classes ever.
After lunch we headed to our writing class. The main lesson
was about writing personal statements for college applications, and through
that, we moreover learnt about the three stages of writing, pre-writing,
drafting, and re-writing. Our exercise on free writing was by far the most
useful, as it teaches us to be more creative, and to write whatever comes to
mind in a free flow.
Late afternoon, we went shopping at the Stanford shopping
centre. It was great to pick up where we left off at Union Square. We went crazy
shopping and bought a lot of souvenirs for our friends and family. Our arms
hurt as we left the mall because our bags were so full.
Overall, today was packed with fun. We all look forward to
the second part of the biology class tomorrowJ
