Shortly after lunch,we headed to a lecture named 'Imagining the Future, Critiquing the Present'. The professor introduced us to utopias and dystopias where we learned about different perspectives towards technological advancement in different periods of history. We realized that personal opinions change over time and experienced a revelation that there is more to history than telling stories about courageous conquerors - those who don't know history are destined to repeat it,as said by Edmund Burke. History is like a mother and human civilization a growing toddler, it will guide us and it will always be around to remind us of lessons we must remember. Every development leaves a fond memory in history, however every dispute sears a scar into the flesh of history.
During our free time, we drew landmarks that we want to visit. We all got very into it and we put a lot of effort into it. Soon after, our group hung out with the councilors for a while to talk to them and play on the tire swing and hammock. They gave us some advice on classes and reminded us that we are in America and in the land of the free, professors encourage students to ask more questions and don’t mind receiving challenges from students. This kind of interactive learning style is very alien yet appealing to us and we decided to set a goal to speak up in class for at least one time and we hope to progress and develop so by the end of our stay we will be able to actively participate in class instead of just sitting there quietly.
We had a very productive day and we look forward to learning about US Constitutional Laws and artificial intelligence tommorow morning
