8.5.2014 Day 1 (Group 6: Gloria, Joyce, Hailey, Claire and Cathy)

We arrived at the Stanford school campus today. We were warmly welcomed by the counselors, with a barbecue dinner and house meeting. These put all of us in high spirits and we were motivated to set goals for the next two weeks in Stanford.

Our initial thought was to improve our English to the best of our abilities being in a native English-speaking country. To achieve this, we will actively talk to our counselors and also the professors in Stanford University whom will be enlightening us.

Our other goal is to make friends from different parts of the world, to expand our horizons and brighten our future. This will enhance our social skills, which will aid us later in life, especially when we go for an interview, helping us in securing a position in our desired jobs.

Moreover, we become more independent through intuitive problem solving by applying logic and reason to daily life. This can benefit our future lives when we launch individual careers and live by our own self. Through taking care of ourselves, each one of us will understand the difficulties of solitary living, thus we will be more likely to help each other out.

In conclusion, we will be able to achieve our targets because we have something set in mind, and with a will of iron, we are sure to go back home with a mature mind and to be more confident and compassionate.
