8.12.2014 Day 8 Group 6

In the morning, we had a new session named 'Decision, Leadership and Negotiation'. It was a 2.5 hour course where the professor, who has worked in his department for over 40 years, taught us how to make effective decisions more easily. It was a very stimulating experience because back home in Hong Kong, teachers don't give away money, not even in the form of red packets! We all doubted the teacher when he presented his volunteer with a crisp 20 dollar-bill but as it turns out he was utterly serious and the rest of us felt a twinge of envy because we all wanted to volunteer.

Then we continued our Evolutionary Biology course after lunch. There was some confusion about the venue of the lecture but we settled down eventually. We did an experiment where we become scientists and extract strawberry DNA, it was extremely fascinating and enlightening for us to know what a cluster of DNA looks like and we all enjoyed poking around the jello like substance with a stick. We raised more questions and we learned about the 4 ways that can alter the genetic sequence: mutation, chance, migration and natural selection.

We watched a movie, it was called 'Catching Fire' and it is the sequel to 'The Hunger Games'. It was too cliche for some of us and they claimed it as their free time while others went to enjoy the love triangle in the movie. We can't wait for the Silicon Valley Tour tomorrow!
